5 Reasons Why You Should Hike Mt. Kiamo

by isaiah jan

As an avid hiker who has experienced many campsites and trails, Mt. Kiamo remains one of my favorites, primarily because of the Sabangan campsite. Its fixed itinerary will surely attract hikers who want to connect with nature and experience a quick but satisfying hike.

Hiking at Mt. Kiamo can be completed within 6 hours (round-trip), which is considered a day hike. However, I highly recommend spending a night at the Sabangan campsite to fully appreciate its allure. Accessible Campsite

The Sabangan campsite features a spacious, grassy area perfect for pitching tents. It only takes an easy 30-45 minute walk from jump-off where your car will be parked. This also attracts other campers who won’t hike the peak and just want to spend the night perfect for socials.

Short but Challenging Trail

The Sabangan trail of Mt. Kiamo might be short, but it’s steep enough to challenge avid hikers. In addition to these inclines, the open trail will surely motivate you to pace yourself to avoid being scorched by the sun.

Picturesque Views

The views from the Sabangan campsite include some of Bukidnon’s treasures: grasslands and pine trees. Bukidnon truly is beautiful with its highlands and ridges, and this is just one example.

Countless Activities

The Sabangan campsite offers activities like horseback riding and cooling off at the Tagoloan River. Personally, I love how this campsite is perfect for just about anything. This is where I started practicing my drone and photography skills.

Campsite Amenities

Convenience is rarely found at hiking campsites. However, in Sabangan, there are comfort rooms, and food available for purchase. The only things you need to bring are your gear, as there are no rentals available.
